Spring Weekend in Munich

We spent a lovely weekend in Munich and it was the first really spring-like weekend in Western Europe. We took an evening flight on Friday and morning flight Monday so it truly was just a weekend trip. Germany was a new country for J and S (her 8th!); I have been to Frankfurt twice for work, so Munich was a new city for me.  All in all, it was a great trip!

Here are some highlights:

The Munich Zoo! We love zoos and we really enjoyed the Munich Zoo. The animals really seemed to be in expansive, natural spaces. S was so excited to see all of her favorite animals- she especially liked the ostriches, flamingoes, elephants, sharks, and penguins. There was a beer garden, some rides, and many different wings to the zoo.

BMW Museum and WELT: We were excited to visit the BMW WELT and Museum. The WELT is this neat place where all of the BMWs are out on display for you to look at, sit in, and interact with. S loved playing with the various cars and pretending to drive J around. She still remembers what J's US car looked like and calls it out. The BMW Museum was quite interesting with plenty of old cars and history. There was a great Rolls Royce exhibit too. S wanted to sit in everything there at first but then understood she couldn't. Her favorite car was the futuristic vision car.

Hofbrauhaus: J was excited for the various beer gardens in Munich, especially Hofbrauhaus. One of the US branches of Hofbrauhaus is randomly in Newport, KY just over the river from Ohio so we have been there a few times. S enjoyed the music and 'pretty dresses' she saw.

English Gardens: The weather could not have been better for us to enjoy the English Gardens. We spent an afternoon there and loved seeing all the green space. S met a few new friends at the playground and enjoyed playing with them. Thankfully the oldest of the girls spoke English so she helped translate when S needed it.

Marienplatz: The main square in Munich is lovely and lively! We ate lunch here one day and just people watched. S enjoyed seeing all of the people and also really enjoyed the pretzels! One strange thing was the police presence. J had read there might be some peaceful protests - we didn't see the protests, but we did see the police ready if the protests got out of hand.

Air Dolomiti: When I booked the Lufthansa flight, it said operated by Air Dolomiti and I didn't pay much attention- I will in the future as this was a superb airline. The plane was super clean, they had a special kid's package for S with a notepad, ruler, stickers, colored pencils, and more. She loved it and was super well behaved on the flights.

  1. Great new post. I love the pictures as always. I have a friend named Silvi. She lives in Augsburg. We met on our card blogs and have become friends. We send each other Christmas and Birthday gifts. She plays bass guitar and loves to make cards as I do.
I am so happy to see you J & S enjoying life so much....Love Ya, Cathy
