Lerici Italy: castles and dinosaurs

For our second excursion, we chose Lerici, Italy. J and I have already been to Florence, Pisa, and Cinque Terre so we decided to do something new. This was a perfect choice for us!

We had to tender again so took the small boat to the pier and then were off on the bus. It was just a short ride to Lerici, a small town on the coast. Lerici has a castle, a small town center, and a beach. Our tour started at the castle, which had been turned into a dinosaur/natural history-ish museum. It was surprisingly nice. The walk up to the castle was fun as we were walking through the neighborhoods of Lerici. The views were spectacular too.

At the castle, there was some play time and exploring time followed by a fossil making activity. S enjoyed doing an activity with the other kids. We then had a snack on the rooftop of the castle before free time.

For our free time, we wandered the town square, enjoyed a pizza lunch, and then some yummy gelato. S fell asleep on the bus back to the pier so we went straight back to the cruise ship. We had a great afternoon on the boat and saw many characters dressed in their Italian themed outfits.

This area made me a bit nostalgic for our trip to Cinque Terre and made me realize I do want to go back there with S while we live in Europe.  Our first trip to Cinque Terre was magical and one of my favorite travel experiences ever. I don't know when we will schedule it in but am sure we will.
