Chamonix & Montenvers Cog Train

The first time we visited Chamonix I noticed a red cog train that looked like a lot of fun! I did some more research and found out that this was the Montenvers train that took you up into the mountains where an ice cave, restaurant, and amazing views await. I have been looking forward to doing this ever since and it didn't disappoint. When J mentioned he would ski this weeked, I decided it was the perfect day for S and me to go with him and enjoy the cog train.

When we arrived in Chamonix, J dropped us off at the train station at a perfect time. We bought our tickets and quickly boarded the red train. S was so excited and insisted on sitting in the last row. The train ride was amazing with great views of the valley as we rose.

After 20 short minutes, we had arrived and WOW - the views were amazing. S and I took a few pictures and then realized the cable car down to the ice cave was opening. We hopped on the cable car and went down into the valley. From there, it was a gorgeous walk (about 300 steps) down to the cave. S did great walking down and the ice cave was really cool. We visited the cave for a little while and began the climb back up. S walked up about 50 steps and then was done so I carried her the rest of the way.

Once to the top, I saw the trail to the restaurant so we walked there and enjoyed hot chocolate together.

We took the train back down to town and wandered around Chamonix for a little while. The sun was shining brightly and the views of the Alps were amazing. We walked through town and met J at the end of his ski day for the ride back to Geneva. S was asleep before we exited the parking garage.
