Weekend Getaway to Innsbruck

We spent the past weekend in Innsbruck - we had enjoyed our time in Vienna at Christmas and wanted to experience more of Austria and what a great decision it was - we all loved Innsbruck and Austria has become one of my favorite European countries (nothing can beat Italy or Switzerland though).

We took the train to Innsbruck on Thursday night and returned home Sunday. The scenery was gorgeous and the trains were efficient and clean. S was very well behaved the whole time and seemingly enjoyed the trains. We arrived pretty late so went straight to the hotel and to bed.

Friday was a perfect weather day - the view from our room was just what you think of when you see Innsbruck!

J decided not to ski Friday so we enjoyed the town together - we went to the Imperial Gardens and S played for awhile. We also enjoyed the cable car to the Alpine Zoo and explored the Zoo. There was another nice playground for S. We also swam in the (cold) hotel pool and S loved her new swimming vest. After some rest, we had a nice dinner in Old Town and then off to bed.

Saturday was girls' day for S and M while J skied.

We headed to a park just across the river from our hotel and S played quite a bit - she had a very nice time and there were a few English speaking children there. We also explored the town and saw a few funny street performers (including a 'guy without a head' that S just couldn't get enough of), found H&M so S could buy some new spring clothes (yes, we have them in Geneva but S enjoys shopping on trips too), and enjoyed hot chocolates and pastries near the Golden Roof. Once J came back we enjoyed another family dinner out before bed.

Sunday was mostly a travel day, but it was a gorgeous travel day- the sun was shining and the views through the Swiss countryside were breathtaking.

Next up, a fun weekend in the Swiss Alps in a few weeks.
