Servion Zoo - what a find!

We didn't have big plans for this weekend, so I checked one of the expat blogs I follow and found out about a zoo that is just over an hour from Geneva - those of you who know us well or have followed the blog know that we enjoy zoos quite a bit, so this was perfect!

We left Geneva around 10am Saturday morning and arrived at Servion Zoo a little after 11am - this was definitely a different location for a zoo as it is in the middle of small villages in Switzerland rather than in a large city. There were about 10 cars there (and not tons of room for many more), so I wasn't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised!

The zoo had many large animals, including two very large brown bears, two Siberian tigers, a snow leopard, and many different kinds of small monkeys. All of the animals were very active and had great viewing points. S loved it! She would stop and watch for a few minutes at each animal and then ask to go to the next one. She watched the bears and tigers for awhile and loved to talk about what they were doing.

The zoo also had great play areas with slides, spinning rides, and swings so S played quite a bit in those areas too.

We had lunch at the zoo's cafeteria with a great view of the tigers. The selection was surprisingly broad and quite good.

There is a second area with reptiles, birds, and penguins that we didn't go to today, but we agreed we would definitely come back and go there too.
